Redefining Sweater Weather

August is a funny month, isn't it? Many kids are already heading back to school and with my summer getaways behind me, I find myself anticipating fall, dreaming of autumn leaves and trips to the pumpkin patch. Yet let's not kid ourselves-- we still have a good couple months of summer weather ahead! Rather than jumping ahead prematurely to the next season, why not enjoy the unique season of transition that's upon us?
Let's talk about summer dressing. Most of us first associate knits with cold weather, which makes sense considering that there's nothing better than cozying up in a chunky sweater by the fireside when temperatures dip low. But here at Sun Valley Alpaca Co., our love for sweaters spans year round!
When I think of sweaters in the summertime, images of preppy-chic cable knits wrapped around shoulders come to mind. I imagine those long, lazy summer evenings, gathered around a bonfire, when one requires an extra layer to guard against the sudden chill. Summer sweater style is a wonderful study in contrasts. A chunky fisherman sweater paired with cutoff shorts. A cozy knit slipped over a bikini after a dip in the sea. A featherweight cardigan carried in your tote on a sweltering hot day, just in case it's cold in the movie theater.
Don't think we forgot about the men! There's certainly no shortage of summer sweater inspiration for you, and there's no such thing as being too manly to need a sweater. Sweaters are cool, and they add a whole other layer to your outfit! An easy outfit I always love is a chunky sweater paired with shorts. A lightweight pullover is great for a morning of golf or a afternoon out on the boat. (Reference the classic JFK sweater style photo below!) One basic that every man should have in his closet is a shawl collar cardigan -- it's not only the perfect balance to a pair of shorts, but it's a classic, year-round piece you can transition with ease into every season year after year.
