Now Trending: Winter White

The other day I was perusing through a post-holiday sale section when an overheard comment managed to stop me in my tracks. "These white jeans are so crazy cheap, I might buy them for next summer!" The girl and her friend proceeded to lament about how despite the jeans' tempting price tag, it would be better to purchase something they could wear right away. Even though this was a conversation between random strangers, I had so much trouble holding my tongue! I desperately wanted to interject, "Seriously?? White jeans can totally be worn year round!"
The old saying, "No white after Labor Day" no longer applies. It has become as outdated of a rule as "your bag must match your shoes." White jeans not only can be worn during wintertime, the look should be embraced! I would venture to say they are even more fun to style now than they are in spring and summer. Head to toe white, reminiscent of a snowy day, is a classy, elegant look that happens to be right on trend!
My favorite way to wear white during winter is juxtaposing two different shades. I love an ivory knit sweater paired with crisp white denim. The key to wearing white in these cooler seasons without looking silly is to consider texture and contrast; focus on heavier fall/winter fabrics in snowy white shades. For example, a cream colored pea coat or a chunky fisherman sweater helps create a balance between lightness and heaviness.
People naturally gravitate towards wearing darker colors in the winter months, so a head to toe winter white look feels as refreshing as a brightly colored umbrella on an overcast, rainy day. Personally, I find a completely monochrome look to be the most stunning, but a great, approachable way to adopt this trend is by complementing white with colored accessories-- perhaps brown leather ankle boots and belt, or classic red rain boots with red leather gloves.
With this winter white inspiration, I don't know how anyone could resist wearing white after Labor Day! Shop our Sun Valley Alpaca Co. women's collection here and find lots of snuggly soft, snowy white alpaca options.
