You may also wish to explore our alpaca sweaters and garments. It’s wonderful that there are products that feel so luxurious, and are also a fantastic choice for the earth-conscious consumer.
As soft as cashmere, yet far more durable and incredibly sustainable, alpaca wool is one of the most sought-after, eco-friendly fibers in the world. Exceptionally lightweight, it possesses the finest moisture and temperature regulating properties. Alpaca is amazing! Due to the harsh temperature swings found in the Peruvian Altiplano, where alpacas have evolved, they developed a fleece that not only withstands negative degrees of nighttime cold, but +70 degrees of heat during the daytime; all within a single 24 hour period.
This thermal dynamic flexibility means you will be cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and comfortable every minute in-between. If that isn’t enough, Alpaca fiber is also naturally water and flame-resistant.
CERTIFIED ORGANIC COTTON
We cover our alpaca products with premium, 100% GOTS certified organic cotton in a 233 thread count percale weave. This tight, high-quality weave creates a crisp, airy, and breathable structure that softly flexes without any crunch. Like Alpaca, organic cotton is a superior natural fiber. It aids in wicking away moisture for cool, restful sleep. Our organic cotton uses less water than conventional cotton, and is responsibly grown without pesticides, herbicides, or fertilizers. Bleach free, it has a pleasing ecru shade.
100% SHEEP'S WOOL FREE
Why is wool-free so important - Isn’t alpaca a wool? We use the term Alpaca Fiber and Alpaca Wool simultaneously because alpaca can be used in many of the same ways that sheep’s wool can, however, Alpaca is far more luxurious and outperforms regular wool on every level.
Sheep’s wool contains lanolin, one of the most allergenic substances, it holds moisture which bed bugs, dust mites and other microscopic pests live on. It is itchy and each hair has tiny barbs that hold onto dust, and dander. The inclusion of sheep’s wool in other mattress pads is a less-costly commodity. It simply reduces material costs, and with it, performance.
Alpaca is warmer than wool, its superb thermoregulation alone makes it leaps-and-bounds above any other naturally occurring fiber, yet it doesn’t cause overheating. It’s also better at reducing humidity, and outstanding at wicking moisture. The smooth fibers don’t cause itching, nor do they hold onto anything at all no dust, dander, skin particles - zero. Alpaca is far more durable and sustainable too, both the alpacas themselves and the processing are gentle on the planet. Overall, Alpaca is a far better material than traditional sheep’s wool. Alpaca is antimicrobial - repelling dust mites, bed bugs and other bacterias while encouraging air to circulate naturally. It is odor free and will not hold onto odors. Because of these properties alpaca is the clear choice for a better mattress pad.
We're committed to your well being — no chemicals or toxic flame retardants. Alpaca is naturally flame retardant. GREENGUARD Gold certified for low emissions and Formaldehyde Free certified by UL Environment. This means your mattress topper is scientifically proven to meet some of the world's most rigorous, third-party emissions standards for chemical exposure and pollutants, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde, and phthalates.
EASY TO CLEAN
Alpaca bedding repels dirt, odor and pest so minimal cleaning is needed. To protect your alpaca wool mattress topper, we recommended a mattress cover. Occasional airing will keep it fresh and clean. Rotate and fluff your alpaca topper to help retain loft. Occasionally place your Alpaca Topper outside in sunlight to sanitize. Fresh air and direct sun will restore freshness. Spot clean only Do not machine wash. Do not iron or bleach. Dry completely after spot cleaning. Please consider using a waterproof breathable cover to prevent accidents.
